Wheatgrass juice

Wheatgrass juice

Wheatgrass juice is product of juicing/pressing fresh wheatgrass in juicer or press.

The process I use at home is that I simply cut wheatgrass with scissors 1 cm above the soil, and it is ready for juicing.

In ideal condition, it always best to harvest every morning just the amount you are going to use for the juice, and to leave the rest to grow more, for the next day. That way you are keeping your wheatgrass as fresh as possible, and enjoy your fresh wheatgrass juice.

If it is more convenient for you to juice all the wheatgrass, I recommend that you freeze the juice as soon as it is produced.

In the case you are consuming frozen wheatgrass juice, it is very important to consume it (dissolved in water) immediately after they melt down, not to allow oxidation process to start.

Do not put frozen cubes in hot water. Put your frozen wheatgrass juice in normal glass of water, and put the whole glass in a container with warm water. Try not to ruin the benefits by overheating the juice above human temperature.

Juicers

The most of the juicers you can find on the market are centrifugal juicer.

Centrifugal juicers usually cut the fruits and spin it on high speed to produce the juice. They will not work with wheatgrass or other greens meaning you will get very small amount of juice and even worse, the large rotation speed is warming the content so oxidation starts earlier, and most of the benefits are ruined.  (this remark stands for other fruits and vegetables also, not only for wheatgrass)

You need press, which is rather expensive and space consuming, or masticating or slow juicer.

Masticating jucer are pressing juice from vegetables in slow speed (20-30 turns per minute).
There is no overheating and you keep much more vitamines and the most important live enzymes.

There are also manual wheatgrass juicers on the market that are cheaper and if you do not mind using your own power as good as electrical.  (manual wheatgrass juicers are usually good only for greens, and not strong enough for other vegetables).

Enjoy your healthy wheatgrass juice adventure. :)
